About the Gutsy Group

Who we are?

The Gutsy Group Foundation is a ‘not for profit’ organisation dedicated to raising funds for medical and scientific research into the cause, prevention, management and cure of Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.

The Foundation was established in 1999 and The Gutsy Group Inc., an incorporated association, is the trustee of the Foundation. In 2006, The Gutsy Group obtained endorsement from the Australian Tax Office as a charitable institution and obtained deductible gift recipient status.

Our vision

Our vision is to raise funds for medical research to develop improved treatment of, and eventually a cure for both Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, which together comprise the inflammatory bowel diseases, known as ‘IBD’.

In order to fulfil this vision, our primary objective is to ensure that The Gutsy Group has the financial capacity to continue to fund discrete research projects linked to the ultimate goal of finding a cure for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis and improving the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of it in the process.

As a consequence of pursuing this vision, we are also indirectly raising awareness of the existence of Crohn’s and colitis in the community. This increases knowledge for families, various health professionals and the public about the impact of Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis on daily life for those who live with the condition and the urgent need for a cure.

Organisation

The Gutsy Group is governed by a Committee of Management. It is assisted by the Scientific Advisory Group and the Fundraising Advisory Group. All members of The Gutsy committees provide their time and services on an honorary basis.

The Scientific Advisory Group is responsible for reviewing all applications for scientific and clinical research funding into Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. The Fundraising Advisory Group is responsible for initiating and managing all fundraising events.
